The musical feature will be directed by Todd Phillips and the title is a French phrase, which translates to refer to a mental disorder that impacts two or more people.

Lady Gaga was rumoured to be cast to star alongside Joaquin Phoenix but the pop icon confirmed her role via social media in a short teaser video that hints a bad romance could be at the core of the film. Check out the teaser here:

The original Joker film (not a musical) was a massive success and gained a record breaking $96.2 million at the box office during its opening weekend. In total, it made $1.07 billion internationally, making it the highest ever grossing R-Rated movie.

Joaquin Phoenix, who played the Joker, and  Hildur Guðnadóttir won Academy Awards for Best Actor and Original Music Score respectively. The film was nominated for 11 Oscars overall, including the top prize Best Picture and Best Director for Todd Phillips.

It’s going to be interesting watching the development of this sequel and the decision to make it a musical after already having so much success from the original Joker film.
