Jordan Peele’s ‘Nope’ Opens At No. 1

Jordan Peele’s new science-fiction movie ’Nope’, which stars Daniel Kaluuya as a Hollywood horse wrangler who has some extra-terrestrial problems and is R rated, opened to a solid $44 million. Considering this is on a budget of $68 million that’s not a bad opening at all.

Not only did ’Nope’ open at number 1, this is Jordan Peele’s third film in a row to have hit the milestone. Also the film made the biggest domestic opening for an original script since 2019's ‘Us,’ which just happened to be Jordan Peele's last film.

Jordan Peele’s latest offering didn’t open in the same spectacular way that ‘Us’ did, but it still has more time at the box office and with the good reviews from critics (83% on Rotten Tomatoes) it still has the time to hit the heights of ‘Us’.

"When it comes to Jordan Peele, it's not so much about the opening weekend as much as it is about building that word of mouth," Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore (SCOR), told CNN Business. "His movies are in it for the long haul."
